For over 100 years, the traditional company Leica Camera AG has been synonymous with cameras and lenses with enduring values such as reliability, durability and quality. These values are gaining importance again. Analogue photography is also experiencing a renaissance and with it the Leica M6. It has a very special role among Leica's rangefinder cameras: almost 175,000 were manufactured between 1984 and 2002 and served the best photographers as an instrument to capture their view of the world. This resulted in numerous images that today represent a piece of contemporary history. With the new edition of the legendary rangefinder camera, Leica is now fulfilling the desire of younger target groups in particular to become an active part of the photographic creative process again. The M6 still offers exactly the right equipment to concentrate on the essentials when taking photos.
The 2022 Leica M6 features a modern version of the rangefinder with 0.72x magnification. In addition, all of its optical surfaces are now coated and therefore less sensitive to stray light. Instead of originally only being protected by two Arrow symbols, the light balance of the current M6 now also shows the correct exposure via a red dot. It also has a battery warning indicator. The top cap has also been updated: While the previous model was made of die-cast zinc, it is now milled from solid brass and coated with an abrasion-resistant black varnish. The exposure meter of the M6 measures the light with a strong emphasis on the center over a light-colored area on the mechanically controlled cloth shutter through the lens.

Leica M6 – the icon of analog photography
The analogue M6 is considered a cult object. Intuitive, compact and discreet, it allows you to get close to the action and to real emotions. Since 1984, it has been used as an instrument by the world's best photographers to create countless iconic images.
The rangefinder – the heart of all Leica M cameras
The rangefinder shows an exceptionally bright, high-contrast and always uniformly sized image that extends beyond the actual subject. For an expanded view of the scenery and for full control when focusing and exposing. The M6 uses a mechanical rangefinder with 0.72x viewfinder magnification, made by hand from over 100 individual parts. With the selective exposure metering through the lens and the light balance displayed in the lower part of the viewfinder image, the aperture and exposure time can be precisely coordinated. Focusing is done using a split image or mixed image method. Both are ideal for quickly and extremely precisely focusing even in poor lighting conditions.
The Advantages of Rangefinder Photography
Those who can see more can assess situations better. This is why the unique rangefinder technology also shows what is happening outside the image size and helps you choose the right moment to take the picture. Bright frames delimit the image field for six focal lengths; in pairs for 28 and 90 mm, 35 and 135 mm and 50 and 75 mm. After inserting a lens, the corresponding focal length automatically appears as the image field limit in the viewfinder. In addition, all other bright frames can also be displayed in the rangefinder using the image field selector. This means that you can judge which focal length is best suited to the subject before you take the picture. And which moment is the decisive one.
Iconic design
M cameras have not only been used to create iconic images for decades, they are also considered icons of product design. Simple elegance, absolutely reliable functionality and high-quality materials combine to create the iconic design that is inherent in all M cameras. A design that stands the test of time. The M6 has a particularly scratch-resistant varnish, a top cap made of solid brass and robust leather upholstery. Also new is the coating on the glass surfaces, which prevents annoying stray light with its anti-reflective coating. True to the original from 1984, the new generation is also adorned with the red Leitz logo.
Real value endures
Trends come and go. Real values, on the other hand, remain and are passed on from generation to generation. Leica cameras and lenses are testament to traditional values such as durability, reliability and quality. Real, tangible quality, achieved through high-quality materials and solid mechanics. Leica has always manufactured precision tools by hand, developed mechanical and optical masterpieces that are unrivaled and constantly set new standards. Real, tangible quality "Made in Germany", solely to give you maximum freedom when taking photographs at all times.
