Since its introduction in 1954, the Leica M has stood for lively and authentic images from the heart of the action like no other camera. Photojournalists working in crisis areas in particular value the intuitive, unique and unobtrusive style of M photography. Since then, countless iconic images have been taken with M cameras that reliably document world history.

In today's digital age, however, content can easily be manipulated. Fake photos and artificially generated images deprive consumers of trust in the accuracy of digital content and make it difficult to prove the authenticity of one's own images. A fatal problem that threatens the basis of photographic reporting.

Leica Camera AG is once again demonstrating its pioneering spirit and setting another milestone in the history of photography with the launch of the Leica M11-P. It is the world's first camera to store metadata by attaching content credentials at the time of capture in order to protect the authenticity of digital images. These content credentials are the digital nutritional value mark and the most widely used industry standard for all types of content, as well as the basis for more trust and transparency on the Internet. With the M11-P, Leica is honoring the invaluable work of all photographers and preserving this basis for digital content and its sources.

The M11-P is a pioneer in the use of secure metadata in accordance with the open source standard of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). This function provides an additional level of transparency when designing and modifying an image. It allows information such as names, dates, changes made and tools used to be securely attached, thus creating awareness of the origin of the file. With Content Credentials, every image taken with the Leica M11-P receives a digital signature supported by a CAI compliant certificate. The authenticity of the images can be verified at any time using a freely available CAI tool or at https://contentcredentials.org/verify be checked.

Leica's Content Credentials technology ensures the authenticity of the image using special hardware in the camera. It consists of a special chipset for storing digital certificates from the German Federal Printing Office. The state-of-the-art integration guarantees seamless verifiability of the origin of an image. Leica is setting a new standard for the protection of digital content in collaboration with Adobe and the global community of almost 2,000 members from media and technology companies, NGOs, academies and others to promote the introduction and implementation of content credentials.

When the "Leica Content Credentials" function is activated in the camera menu, the Content Credential logo is visible on the display and every image taken with the Leica M11-P is reliably signed using a special algorithm. The image thus receives unchangeable and verifiable proof of the camera model, manufacturer and image attributes. The authenticity of these image certificates can be verified and viewed at any time using free CAI open source tools. They prove whether an image is in the original or in an edited version and, in the latter case, provide insight into the history of content changes. This gives photographers the opportunity to demonstrate the authenticity of their images from the time they are taken to the time they are published.

Other distinguishing features from the Leica M11 perfect the traditional M understatement and further expand the range of applications of the Leica M11-P. The deliberate omission of the red Leica dot on the front of the camera enables even more discreet photography. Instead, a subtle Leica thread engraving adorns the top cap. This and the base cap are made of aluminum on the matt black painted Leica M11-P and milled from brass blocks on the silver chrome-plated camera version. In combination with the all-metal housing made of a highly stable magnesium alloy, the interior of the camera is safely protected. The LCD monitor made of sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective protective coating allows images to be optimally assessed in all lighting conditions. The Leica M11-P with its 60 MP BSI CMOS sensor and Triple Resolution technology as well as the high-performance Maestro III processor combines the latest camera technology with the highest flexibility. Last but not least, the generous internal memory of 256 GB makes the camera a reliable, functional and always ready-to-use precision tool “Made in Germany”.
