The special feature of the construction lies in the design of the motor-driven focusing. In contrast to manually focused fixed focal lengths, the length of which usually varies when focusing, the Summilux-SL 1:1.4/50 ASPH. has an internal focusing.
In order to ensure consistently high image quality across the entire focusing range, this group is elaborately designed with an aspherical lens, but is still light enough to ensure fast autofocus.
The optical design features a total of eleven lenses, including two aspherical lenses and four lenses made of glass with anomalous partial dispersion to correct chromatic aberrations. This complex optical structure reduces all monochromatic aberrations as well as color aberrations to a barely perceptible level.
Elaborate coatings on all lens surfaces, an optimal design of lens mounts and the included rectangular lens hood significantly reduce reflections and stray light.
