A milestone in the history of photography
With the Leica Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH., one of the most famous lenses for the Leica M system returns, carefully adapted to the design of modern lenses. It owes its fame to its still impressive light intensity, its elaborately manufactured aspherical lenses and its high image quality with a unique look at wide aperture. The Noctilux 1:1.2/50 was manufactured from 1966 to 1975 in an edition of 1757 units.
A lens illuminates the night
A street lamp at night, the tail lights of a vehicle, a child's face in candlelight, an actress or a singer in the spotlight - images of authentic and natural clarity. Shots taken with a Noctilux are characterized by their unmistakable bokeh and an almost impressionistic visual quality. The Noctilux is a fascinating tool that photographers from all over the world use to overcome visual and artistic challenges and tell fascinating stories of the light and dark sides of life.
1966: the first Noctilux lens
In 1966, the Noctilux 1:1.2/50 amazed trade fair visitors and the specialist press with its revolutionary optical properties. It offered a maximum aperture that was huge for the time, combined with exceptional optical performance. This was also due to the fact that the Noctilux was the first lens ever produced in series with two aspherical lenses, the purpose of which was to reduce the imaging error of spherical aberration at maximum aperture and to increase the quality of the image field.
In the new edition of this unique lens, the calculation and construction of the original were only moderately changed and adapted to the types of glass and manufacturing methods available today.
