The Pups of Venice Beach and their Humans
DOGTOWN is a street photography project about the dogs of Venice Beach, California. It is named after "Dogtown" in West Los Angeles, an area that in the 1960s and 1970s included the slums of Venice and Santa Monica's Ocean Park. The surfers and skateboarders of Dogtown were once known as aggressive, antisocial school dropouts from precarious backgrounds. Today, real dogs of various breeds and social backgrounds are conquering Venice Beach. The four-legged friends in this book are often part of the skateboarding culture. The American photographer Dotan Saguy and his Leica camera give us light-hearted, funny, emotional moments, captured with love and compassion for the dogs and their Dogtown environment. The book is a tribute to Elliott Erwitt and a must-have for all dog lovers.
